“I’m singin’ in the rain, just singin’ in the rain
What a glorious feeling, and I’m happy again
I’m laughing at clouds, so dark up above
The sun’s in my heart, and I’m ready for love”
You know how some songs just make you want to get up and dance? Well, Gene Kelly’s “Singin’ in the Rain” certainly does it for us. In fact, we’re currently listening to GLEE’s mash-up of that song with Rihanna’s “Umbrella” – probably the most amazing remix (and performance) ever! If you haven’t seen it, you really should :)
It was raining on-and-off the day of Sam and Michael’s wedding, but they did not let it dampen their spirits. As wedding photographers, we are firm believers that rain on a wedding day is a sign of abundant blessings to come for the newlyweds – so we certainly never treat it as a negative. Plus, there’s something just unbelievably romantic about the rain. The picture of Sam and Mike kissing in the rain under a lovely clear umbrella is definitely one of our 2015 favorites!
This idea of singing/kissing/dancing in the rain – both literally and figuratively – will only increase in importance as we go through the inevitable ups and downs of life. As a married couple of three years, it’s safe to say that we have weathered quite a few rainstorms/hails/thunderstorms/flood and… well, you get the idea. Just like rain on a wedding day, we never ask for it. But sometimes it pours… and when it does our decision is to take each other’s hands, jump into the puddles, laugh out loud at the dark and stormy clouds, and dance away until the rain finally stopped (because it always does) and a beautiful rainbow emerged.
“When the sun shines we’ll shine together, told you I’ll be here forever
Said I’ll always be a friend, took an oath Imma stick it out ‘til the end
Now that it’s raining more than ever, know that we’ll still have each other
You can stand under my umbrella, you can stand under my umbrella”
