In my younger years, my naive self thought that the only way to fall in love was to fall “at first sight”. That moment when you first lock eyes with someone and you feel that instant chemistry. Eyes twinkling, hearts rapidly beating, hands sweating. Nothing else seems to matter. Because “when you know, you know”… Right?
Well, yes and no. A friend of mine challenged my perspective back in high school. Her theory is that the best kind of love is the type that grows. The type that evolves from liking each other enough to be friends, growing up and experiencing ups-downs-and-everything-in-between together, creating tons of amazing shared memories, building respect that can only come from true understanding of the other person’s character, trying to ignore the undeniable sparks building around you, until you finally realize that – as cliche as it sounds – what you’ve been looking for is standing right in front of you.
As someone who vowed never to date anyone in my “friend zone”, I was confused at first when experiencing the unforeseen “eyes twinkling, hearts rapidly beating, hands sweating” moments with my then friend-turned best friend-turned boyfriend-turned fiancé…and now husband. But boy am I glad that I decided to follow my ever growing heart…and test my friend’s theory. So, for those of you who are feeling trapped in the “friend zone”, this blog is for you :)
Melissa and Dom share our story since they also started out as friends. If there is an award for “Couple with the Best Smile”, we would totally give it to these two. Happiness, contentment, excitement… you can feel them all through these pictures!
